A behind-the-scenes journey from farm to family
Every Fresh Box tells a story long before it reaches your doorstep. It’s a story of early mornings, local growers, sensory moments in the packing room and a team of people who genuinely care about what ends up on your table.
If you’ve ever wondered how your organic fruit and veg delivery comes together or what happens between the farm and your front door, come with us behind the scenes. This is the journey your Fresh Box takes… every single week.
🍃 It All Begins on Sunday Afternoon
Many of the fruit and vegetables you receive are picked less than 24 hours before they arrive at our depot. While you’re enjoying a quiet Sunday, our growers are hand-harvesting apples, herbs, carrots, mangoes and everything in between.
By early Monday morning, crates begin arriving cool from overnight travel, full of colour, and heavy with the scent of freshly picked produce.
Some of our favourite sensory moments happen right here:
-
The fragrance of just-trimmed ginger
-
The bright, leafy aroma of new-season herbs
-
The first whiff of a ripe mango when the lid comes off a crate
Every box that arrives is opened and checked by hand. Shape, firmness, colour, aroma nothing gets overlooked. This is the moment we get our first glimpse of what the week’s boxes will feel like.
🎧 Monday Morning: Music On, Aprons On, Let’s Pack
As soon as the team arrives, the first thing we do is gather for a quick debrief.
What’s looking incredible this week?
What needs a gentle touch?
Which fruits are the season’s showstoppers?
And then the music starts.
Our playlist is a mixed bag depending on who claimed the speaker first, 80’s classics, a bit of RnB, or, in December, the compulsory top 100 Christmas hits. It’s not unusual to hear someone belting Mariah Carey while someone else sings “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” two octaves lower.
Packing days begin with prepping the produce that takes the most time:
mushrooms and potatoes.
These are all bagged and weighed by hand, often leaving us looking like we’ve been making mud pies when the potatoes arrive particularly dusty. It’s messy, earthy and grounding and we wouldn’t change it.
Prepping takes us right through the morning. Monday is rhythm, flow and getting everything set for the days ahead.
🥝 The Tuesday Morning Ritual: Seasonal Excitement
As seasonal produce arrives, there is often a ripple of excitement among the team.
When the first kiwis of the year come in, we all gather to admire (and taste) one.
Mandarins return for their short season and instantly brighten the room.
And berries or stone fruit… well, it’s fair to say they stop everyone in their tracks.
You haven’t truly tasted a cherry until you’ve tried an organic one — and we wait all year for them.
Any imperfect produce is reported immediately. Our standard is simple:
If we wouldn’t give it to our own family, it won’t go into your box.
📦 Packing Your Boxes: A Gift Every Week
We pack orders Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, depending on when your delivery is scheduled. And no matter the day, the process is the same.
We always begin with the heaviest items first, building a strong base.
Delicate greens, herbs and lighter items go on top, arranged intentionally so that when you open your Fresh Box, it feels like a gift and not just groceries.
Every box is hand-packed with care, checked, adjusted and often finished with a seasonal gift like a sprig of rosemary or a little bag of stone fruit. We take enormous pride in our service and it shows in the small details.
🚚 Delivery Morning: The Journey to You
On the morning of your delivery, the vehicle is packed item by item.
Our driver finalises the run sheet, checks every label, loads each box in route order and sets off across the Sunshine Coast.
He knows many customers by name and remembers where almost everyone lives. There’s a lovely rhythm to his mornings and a quiet pride in collecting last week’s box as part of our closed-loop system. Seeing your empty Fresh Box waiting out front for exchange is one of our favourite moments. It means this little circular system we’ve built together is working.
And then come the messages.
Customers telling us their box just arrived.
Photos of kids unpacking cherries.
Notes saying the herbs smell incredible or the mangoes look perfect.
After a while, customers don’t feel like customers. They start to feel like family.
🌱 Why It Matters
Your Fresh Box isn’t just fruit and vegetables.
It’s the work of farmers who harvested the day before.
It’s the hands of a team who pack with intention and pride.
It’s the connection between local land, local growers and local families.
It’s a moment of joy arriving on a doorstep, week after week.
This is what organic food delivery looks like when it’s done with heart.
And this is why we love what we do.
